The
Sokhumi State University delegation actively participated in the VII
International Congress of Social Sciences in Baku from June 2-4, 2022,
delivering presentations on significant and current topics. Of notable interest
was the discussion surrounding "University Diplomacy" and Professor
Zurab Khonelidze's monograph, which garnered substantial attention from
scholars across diverse nations. Many recognized this concept as a compelling
and innovative idea capable of addressing numerous international challenges.
Notably, it was seen as holding potential for resolving longstanding issues in
the South Caucasus, which have impeded regional stability and economic
development for a third of a century. The consensus among scientists is to
support and further promote "university diplomacy" on the
international stage within the realms of academia, science, and politics.
During
the congress, the Rector of Sokhumi State University actively engaged in
bilateral meetings. These discussions included representatives from the
administration of the President of Azerbaijan, government officials from
Azerbaijan, rectors from various foreign universities, and the Ambassador of
Georgia. The focal points of these meetings were centered on Sokhumi State
University's mission and role within both the Georgian political and
educational spheres. Furthermore, conversations delved into the essence and
significance of university diplomacy as a novel Georgian paradigm for peace.
Under
the leadership of Rector Zurab Khonelidze, the Sokhumi State University
delegation achieved success in Baku, outlining new perspectives for bilateral
and regional educational-scientific cooperation. These discussions paved the
way for potential collaborations and partnerships in the future.
